Give them His draw.
Last Friday Carey and I started the day as we always do: We asked God what He had for us that day.
Maybe in my head I had already started my “Christmas Break.” It was unusual that I had nothing on my calendar for the day. No home projects, no work projects that had to be done. I wanted to go with Carey, I wanted to totally walk in the Spirit with absolutely none of my own preconceptions for the day.
We went to the Re-Store on Columbia Avenue in Franklin. At first we thought it was to find some new cabinet pulls for our kitchen, but they didn’t have the color God wants for us. Instead, God told us we were there to restore something in the Spirit.
From there we went to the Goodwill on Columbia Avenue. We sat on a bench for sale in the store and watched people shopping – and prayed. One shopper told us we startled him when we moved – he thought we were mannequins.
When we got up to look around the store a little, a woman who later introduced herself as Pam came up to us and said, “You’re not from around here are you?”
Carey said, “Yes we are, we live in Fieldstone Farms, just down the street.”
Not convinced, Pam said, “There’s something about y’all.” Then she turned to me and asked, “You’re a singer, aren’t you?” I knew Pam could see the Holy Spirit.
Carey said, “He is a good singer but he doesn’t get paid for it.” Then Carey asked Pam, “May we pray for you?”
Pam’s smile faded a little as she said, “Of course. That would be wonderful. I just lost my job yesterday. So I need it.”
Carey prayed a beautiful prayer of revelation and love for Pam in this change of season for her. (Friday was 12/21, the first day of Winter.)
From there Carey guided me to one of her favorite, private places to pray. She had told me about it several times but had never taken me there. She wasn’t hiding it from me, God told me later that I just hadn’t been ready for it before Friday. Since it is Carey’s place, I won’t reveal it here, but I will say it is not a secluded mountaintop or in the middle of a church – it is beside a dumpster and in plain view.
After hearing God again there, we went to Restoration Hardware in Green Hills and just sat on a leather sofa for sale in the store. We watched shoppers, listened to shoppers, and prayed for shoppers as they rushed to the next place on their list.
In God’s way it was an amazing day. Nothing was done in the natural. I didn’t check a single thing off my Google task list. And it took the next five days to learn what was done in the supernatural, to learn the change of season it meant for me.
In my head I know that every minute is God’s. But He has given me the free will to decide whether I give this minute to Him or not. I don’t know what’s going to happen next week, tomorrow, or even the next hour. How can I know the best way to use this minute? God knows what’s going to happen next, so if I give back to Him this minute He gave me, He will use me to build His kingdom instead of mine.
This week I pushed my self out of His way. I know I’ll have to do it again every day and I hope to grow to remember to do it every minute of every day.
You can’t remove all the need in the world today but there are lots of ways you can help. Ask God – He’ll show you how a cabinet pull can be a Spiritual draw.
