Give Them Healing.
Carey and I have struggled with the whole healing thing.
Healing has divided lots of churches and lots of believers. Some say healing only happened in Biblical times. Others say Jesus still heals today – we just have to ask Him.
In many circles, praying for someone to be healed is not a very common occurrence. Few people want to try it. It can be embarrassing – especially when the prayer does not “work.”
I’ve come to believe that healing isn’t the thing.
The beginning of Mark chapter 2 has the story of the healing of the paralytic. Jesus asks, “Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk?’”
To me, it seems easier to say “Your sins are forgiven” because there is no proof required. If I were to say, “You’re healed,” the person would look for and want demonstrative proof of the healing.
So, maybe forgiveness is the thing.
Forgiveness leads to all kinds of healing – way beyond, but including physical healing. Of course, when Jesus tells the paralytic to stand – then the paralytic stands – Jesus shows that He has authority over both the physical and the Spiritual.
Seeing the paralytic stand helps everyone see Jesus’ authority over the soul (things of the Spirit) and His authority over the natural (things of the world.)
When I hear or see some of the crazy news stories and some of the things people do to each other – if I compare myself to other people – I wonder if I even need forgiveness.
I think that I’m not such a bad person. I haven’t murdered anyone. I’m not totally bankrupt morally. I don’t intentionally hurt people.
But when I compare myself to Jesus, I don’t come close. He knows me. He knows every thought I’ve ever had.
Even though I try, I don’t love like He loves. I don’t live as He lives. I don’t walk as He walks.
Lord, thank You for your Grace and Mercy. Thank you that you have forgiven me already. Thank You that, through Jesus, I am cleansed, that I am righteous in Your eyes.
Thank You that relationship with You is “the thing.” You are all of it – healing, forgiveness, love, grace, mercy, righteousness – all rolled into one. Thank You that our faith in You is credited to righteousness.
Thank you for transforming me, helping me look towards you every minute of every day. Thank you for helping me see and be the You inside of me.
You can’t remove all the need in the world today but there are lots of ways you can help. Ask God where you can find His healing today.
